PC repair and IT support in Cluses and the Arve Valley

Châtel (~1 200 habitants), dernière commune française des Portes du Soleil avant la Suisse, à 1 h 10 de Cluses par la vallée d'Abondance. Station vivante été comme hiver : chalets, locations et commerces couverts.

PC74 · Châtel

Your English-speaking IT technician in Châtel

Châtel sits at the top of the Vallée d'Abondance, ski-linked to Switzerland and full of British and Dutch second-home owners — but a long way from any computer shop. Geneva-side repairers charge Swiss rates (120-150 CHF an hour before they've even found the problem); the valley deserves a better option.

I'm PC74, an independent technician from Cluses. Châtel is my furthest regular stop — about 70 minutes of proper mountain road — so I plan my visits, group them along the valley (Abondance, La Chapelle, Châtel), and make each one count: flat rate agreed before, fixed in one visit whenever possible.

For the smaller stuff, remote assistance saves you the travel fee entirely: I connect securely to your machine while you watch, in English, and most software problems die within the hour.

Areas

Where I work in Châtel

Châtel village & route du Centre

Apartments, hotels and businesses in the village. I usually schedule these first on a valley round.

Linga & Pré-la-Joux

The ski hamlets along the Dranse — chalets and seasonal rentals with the classic altitude-WiFi struggles.

Vonnes & Petit-Châtel

Residential slopes above the village, lots of second homes managed from abroad.

Down-valley : La Chapelle & Abondance

I treat the whole valley as one round — if I'm coming up for you, your neighbours down the road can profit from the same trip (and share the travel fee logic).

Streets and places covered

Route du Centre, route de Vonnes, route du Linga, route de Pré-la-Joux, Petit-Châtel and the chemin des Freinets. If you're at the top of a track that needs chains in January, mention it — I come equipped.

Businesses and professionals in Châtel

Hotels and residences with guest networks; the shops and restaurants of the village; ski-rental businesses with their booking tills; and a striking number of foreign owners who manage their Châtel apartment from London or Amsterdam and need a reliable local tech contact more than anyone.

Local tip

Group it, and the mountain comes cheaper

Châtel is a planned trip, not a detour — so the travel fee is real. The trick: be flexible. Tell me your problem can wait two or three days, I'll fold you into my next Vallée d'Abondance round and quote you a lower call-out. Urgent stays possible 7 days a week; flexible just costs less.

Recent jobs in Châtel

Second-home owner

Apartment tech sorted from London

New owner, apartment in Petit-Châtel, everything to set up: fibre box, WiFi, smart TV, printer. Keys with the agency, owner on WhatsApp, photos and invoice by email. First visit ever needed? None by the owner.

Hotel

Guest WiFi rebuilt before February

Three floors of concrete, one exhausted router. Mesh network sized for full occupancy, separate staff network, done in low season — zero WiFi complaints during the holidays, which for a hotel is money.

Chalet rental

Remote fix, no travel fee

Booking laptop refusing its accounting software update: solved in 40 minutes of remote assistance while the owner watched. Châtel is far — when remote works, everyone wins.

Frequently asked questions in Châtel

Isn't Switzerland closer for repairs? +

Geographically, sometimes. Financially, never: Swiss workshop rates run 120-150 CHF per hour, plus your machine leaves your sight for days. My flat rates start at €60, agreed upfront, at your kitchen table.

How quickly can you get to Châtel? +

Urgent: usually within 24-48 h, 7 days a week. Flexible: I'll fold you into my next valley round, which trims the travel fee. Software-only problems can often be handled remotely the same day.

Do you speak English? +

Yes — much of the Vallée d'Abondance's second-home community is English-speaking and most of my work up here happens in English.

Can you manage our place while we're abroad? +

That's become a speciality: keys with the agency or a neighbour, intervention documented with photos, invoice by email, payment by card link. Many of my Châtel clients I've never physically met.

Is the travel fee fixed? +

It's announced before the visit, based on distance and how the trip fits my rounds. Grouped valley visits pay less — one more reason to mention you're flexible.
