On-site computer repair
Chamonix-Mont-Blanc
PC repair and IT support in Cluses and the Arve Valley
Chamonix-Mont-Blanc (~9,000 year-round, 100k in season) — world capital of mountaineering. 40 km from Cluses, on site within 50 minutes (extra travel fee).
Common issues
Short-term rentals, independent hotels to kit out, mountain pros (guides, ski schools) with laptops exposed to cold/humidity, photo-data recovery.
Areas covered
Chamonix centre, Argentière, Les Bossons, Les Praz, Les Houches (neighbouring commune covered too).
PC74 · Chamonix-Mont-Blanc
Your English-speaking IT technician in Chamonix-Mont-Blanc
Chamonix is the most international town in the Alps — guides, gear brands, remote workers, lifers who came for one season twenty years ago. Half the town works in English, and its computers break like everyone else's: harder, even, between chalet humidity, power cuts and machines that commute in rucksacks.
I'm PC74, based in Cluses — 40 minutes down the Autoroute Blanche, against a valley where 'local' repair options are thin. I come to your apartment, chalet or office, fix in front of you, and agree the flat rate before touching anything.
PC, Mac, UK/US/French keyboards, NAS full of expedition photos — bring me the weird stuff. After years in this valley, very little surprises me.

Areas
Where I work in Chamonix-Mont-Blanc
Chamonix centre
Apartments and businesses between the Aiguille du Midi lift and the pedestrian centre. Parking is the crux — I know the spots.
Les Praz & Argentière
Up-valley villages with big chalets, seasonal rentals and the Grands Montets crowd.
Les Houches & Servoz
Down-valley family territory — quieter, and often same-visit with Chamonix rounds.
Les Bossons & Les Pèlerins
The residential slopes where a lot of the valley's year-round workforce actually lives.
Streets and places covered
Rue du Docteur Paccard, avenue Ravanel-le-Rouge, route des Praz, route d'Argentière, chemin des Cristalliers, Les Houches and Servoz. Anywhere the valley bus goes, I go — usually faster.
Businesses and professionals in Chamonix-Mont-Blanc
Guide bureaus and outdoor businesses with booking systems; hotels and hostels with overloaded guest WiFi; photographers and film-makers with terabytes of mountain footage to secure; and one of Europe's densest populations of remote workers, whose employer is in London while their desk faces the Mont Blanc.

Local tip
Two seasons, two failure modes
Winter kills laptops with chalet condensation and rucksack commutes; summer fries them with heat and dust. Twice a year, a €60 clean-and-check visit (thermal paste, fans, updates, backup check) is the cheapest insurance this valley sells. Book it off-season when my Chamonix diary is loose.
Recent jobs in Chamonix-Mont-Blanc
Photographer
8 TB of mountain footage secured
A film-maker's NAS was one disk failure from disaster. Rebuilt the array, added an offsite backup, wrote the restore procedure down. The next disk failure — because there's always one — will be a non-event.
Remote worker
Video calls that finally hold
London contract, Argentière apartment, WiFi that died every time it snowed. Mesh + wired desk + 4G backup route: he hasn't dropped a call since, whatever the weather's doing.
Guide bureau
Booking PC revived at 7am
The reservation machine froze solid on a July morning with a full day of departures. On site before opening, disk cloned, system restored — the day's clients never knew.

Frequently asked questions in Chamonix-Mont-Blanc
Do you work in English? +
Every day. Chamonix is the valley where I use it most — diagnosis, explanation and invoice, all in English if you prefer.
Can you come to Argentière or Les Houches? +
Yes, the whole valley from Servoz to Le Tour. I group visits along the valley when possible, which also trims the travel fee.
My laptop lives in a rucksack — worth protecting? +
Very. A shock-mounted SSD instead of a spinning disk, a proper sleeve and an automatic cloud backup make a mountain laptop close to indestructible — well, its data at least.
Can you sort a corporate VPN in a rental flat? +
Usually, yes: it's rarely the VPN and almost always the router. I bring the network up to standard and your IT department stops blaming the Alps.
What does a Chamonix call-out cost? +
Normal flat rates (from €60) plus a travel fee announced upfront. Remote assistance, when the problem allows it, skips the travel fee entirely.
